The verse I most often hear referred to is in Mark
Mark 16:16 - He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
The thing is however I believe the concept of baptism is being looked at too literally. I agree whole heartedly that the baptism of water should be performed as a outward sign of our joining Christ in His death burial and resurrection,
Mathew 3: 15 But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness." Then he consented. 16 And when Jesus was baptized, he went up immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him;
However I do not believe the baptism which is required for our salvation is that of water but instead it is given of Christ and is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Mathew 3:11"I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
Anyway thats my 0.02 worth Love to all and have a Blessed Day.

My opinon is that Baptism is an important step, however I don't believe that one mustbe baptised in order to be saved.  But like I said, it is an important process.

If baptism is required how would the thief on the cross beside Jesus have been saved?

Hello all,
Stacy I agree with you in the aspect of baptism being an important part of the Christian development and also with you and T in the aspect of it (Baptism) not being a set requirement for salvation. I believe the concept has been placed in such importance by some denominations that the  true nature of of Christianity and baptism is fading. Like you asked T, if as is so often taught baptism is absolute requirement how are those which have not had the opportunity prior to death to obtain salvation, such as the thief on the cross. Anyway that is my $0.02 worth. As always my love to all and May God Bless.
